Jane Roberts, a brilliant Irish American woman, wrote many books, including poetry, fiction, science fiction, and short essays. She was just a loveable human being, with no sign of guile in herself at all.

She died at age 55 after years of suffering from the complications of Arthritis and Rheumatism, which her mother also died from (leading us to believe that she inherited the disorder).

She had a rough childhood. She was born in Upstate New York in 1929. Her parents divorced in 1932 and her mother had custody of her. Thereafter, her mother began going in and out of hospitals for treatment of her severe Rheumatic disorder. The social welfare system intervened and helped them out. Her mother began guilt-tripping her, saying that she developed her debilitating rheumatism after giving birth to her so it must be her fault. When she could no longer bear this verbal and psychological abuse, she sought ought. She was later removed from her mother and placed in a Catholic group home. She began working early, at age fifteen.

Upon completing high school, she had a scholarship to attend Skidmore College. Upon graduation, she married her first husband and later divorced him and in 1954 married Robert Butts, the man who took down the notes of what she spoke in a trance as Seth speaking through her.

She smoked a lot (that is the only fault one could find in her; smoking is not good for anyone).

My question is this, if the philosophy she taught is true, how come Seth and she did not demonstrate its truth in her life and use her changed thinking to heal her medical disorder (she wrote a book on how to use changed thinking to heal one’s biological disorders)?

Jane Roberts and Helen Schucman started what is now called the New Age Religions, an alternative to traditional Christian religion that teaches that an angry Jewish God created us and expects us to obey his every command or else he destroys us and casts us into eternal hellfire. New Age Christianity has a benevolent God who allows his children to go create their worlds and eventually return to him in his heaven of oneness.

Jane Roberts wondered whether she had what psychiatrists call a dissociative disorder, aka Multiple personality disorder; she speculated whether another personality in her speaks as Seth. She subjected herself to psychological consultation to see if what was happening was dissociative disorder whereby a second personality of hers spoke as Seth. The results of the psychological personality tests were inconclusive (what is conclusive was that she had a genius-level Intelligence Quotient; I speculate around an IQ of 160).

If a part of her, from her subconscious mind, spoke as Seth, how did it possess the level of advanced knowledge on many subjects that the real Jane Roberts did not seem to have or even believe in? She was a poet and writer, but Seth showed almost total understanding of physics, chemistry, and biology, including quantum mechanics of her time (up to 1980 science).
